Sydney to Hobart

Glamorgan. Spent a rather unscheduled extra few weeks in Sydney with a broken gearbox. Hobart was awesome, especially for a young chap far from home!

Got me there. Only know Good Morning/Evening in Welsh. It is welsh isn't it ? :) Defo not jackspeak............unless you'e a pissed up Taff :)

If you go to You Tube you can watch historic races and the starts are fantastic. What is startling is the quality of the commentary and coverage on last years race. It was really exciting and the Australian broadcasters put so much effort in covering it. It is such a shame that here in the UK the round the island and the Fastnet races do not get the same TV coverage. There is no coverage of any of the other world class races such as the Vendee Globe or the five Oceans.

I know it is not an easy thing to cover but the Aussies have it nailed.

The County Class destroyers really looked the part.
A great pity their missile systems did not live up to the image.

It never did. The Slug was a bag of shite from the start. The Mk1 was just a waste of space, so in typical naval fashion they developed the Mk11 which, for all the cost, was only a slight improvement. The Slug was obsolete by the early 70's but remained in service. It looked impressive, made lots of noise & smoke & was 'faster than a speeding bullet' :)
(Its successor the 'Dart' had greatly improved electronics but also had major problems & oprerational defects which were covered up & never properly fixed.)

I really don't know why we bothred. The only time we used the Slug in anger it turned out, as I expected, to be completely useless.

Edit to say: Could go on for hours & hours about that bloody Slug system :) Long story but when they came to trying to sell the GMD's the only Country interested was Chile. They were well & truely conned. Not by me, as I told them the truth, the whole truth & nothing but.............

Amazing to watch these maxis cross tacking like Toppers in the first 10 minutes of the race. The port tack ducking done by WIld Oats looked scary from the helicopter shots, must have been terrifying for the starboard trackers on the water
