One of the joys in Oz for Boxing day (morning for me) is to watch the televised start to the big yacht race. 94 starters (2 starts) but the media focus on the maxi Yachts 100fters.
A bit of argy bargy at the first rurning mark was good to see. 2 baots neck and neck the inside boat for the mark being windward boat. Leeward boat pushed him up and he was slow to recover course for the buoy so windward boat got the clear ahead before the zone. Sounds simple although I thought possibly windward baot went above true course.
Anyway when you rmeember these are 100 fters with 20 crew.. not dinghies. There was a protest falg from the inside boat but I understand the protest has been withdrawn.
The close ups of crews is interesting. I guess the skipper was excited as he gave orders repeated ad infinitum. "sheet on sheet on" etc.

The best part of the televised show was close up of 2 camera operators on 2 different boats leaving the boat after about 30 minutes into the race and out in open ocean.
The first a woman climbed over the stern rail was handed the big camera in waterproof bag, took off her hat a last minute thought, was about to let go when a thoughtful crewman inflated her LJ and away she went landing on her back the boat doing proably near 15knots. Apparently no problem as a RIB picked her up. The guy covered next was a bit more elegant as he dropped off clutching again his camera. Talk about OH&S.
Anyway forecast is for horrible weather tomorrow. The big boats may escape the the little ones (40 to 50fters) will be punished severely. olewill
