SWMBO\'s alternative recipe for savouries

Here's a top tip. We've banned crisps and suchlike from the boat - full of salt/fat and stuff. SWMBO's alternative recipe for a savoury snack is a winner:

Take a tortilla and apply a light covering of olive oil. Cut it up in to (about ten/twelve) segments. Three minutes in the oven. Job done, and excellent savoury to go with cheese, dips etc. I expect that there's still fat/salt in this alternative but certainly tastes much less fatty/salty. Also minimal stowage space required for the tortilla packs and long shelf life; excellent for the ship's stores...............you heard it here first!

(ps - My amendment to the recipe - great with fresh black pepper ground on after applying the olive oil!)

Just made these snacks. They are a bit chewy but perhaps I cooked them at the wrong temp. What is the correct temp? The potential for a tasty snack is there though!

Ah, technical question, not good on those, but I would say very hot. They should be crispy but not burned. Definitely not chewy. I'll ask SWMBO what temp and advise later!

Thanks for the tip. I myself make popcorn- minimal fat/oil, (just enough to stop corn from sticking), a quick blast in a covered saucepan, shaking well until it's stopped popping, then add your own flavouring- I like just a bit of black pepper or some other multi-spice barbeque-type seasoning. Uncooked popcorn lasts for years in the bag. Lots of fibre, too.
