SWMBO was totally horrified when the news came out that HWMBO had 'invested wisely' in a boat back on May.
We've made baby steps along the way...a little less growling...the odd instance where I've her talk about 'our' boat or what 'we' did....faint glimmers of dawn in a long Arctic night....
Today we were planning a trip up to Henley with friends for a picnic...they cried off through sickness so I assumed this was the end of the plan. However, no......Mary agreed to come along with me....just the two of us. Some pleasant weather, a few giggles along the way, an excellent summer support lock-keeper on at Sonning over the past few days (a real character and excellent 'host' to his visitors)....lovely picnic aboard in Henley.
With the sun shining in our faces as we pased Shiplale College on the way home I was staggered when she refused to give me the wheel back after my visit below, and with a grin said ' It really is beautiful along her, sin't it?'
Had to smile....like the melting of the icecaps....almost imperceptible until there is a sudden breakthrough....
Time for a beer methinks. Cheers!
