Hey All,
I Have A Swinging Mooring Which I Use For My 12 ton Motor
Boat A Few Weeks In The Summer . There Is 14Mtrs Of 16Mill
Riser Chain Which Is 4 Years Old Now .
Can I Add Another Riser Chain Too The Mooring & Leave The
Chain Which Is Already There In Place ?
Will They Get Tangled Up ?
Thanks

Instead of adding another chain (which will almost certainly twist quite badly) why not just renew all the shackles? Also check the chain or have it lifted to do so.

I agree.
Don,t stick another chain on.
I presume You have an arrangement with a sturdy groud chain with anchor type things at each end and a riser + pick up bouy?.
If so after 4 years I woul definately service the shackles and swivels.
I had such a set up in the Menai Straits for a few Years with an old Lifeboat which probably weighed at least as much as Your Vessel.
Lots of swishing water abounded where I was moored.
I too thought like You.
I was told in no uncertain terms by the experienced bod who looked after the rig not to faff about with another chain.
Twas a spot that suffered when wind against tide was upon Me.
Plus 7 kts of rip.
I listened to Him and all was safe for a few Years.
It's the "working" bits that suffer.
IE, swivels, shackles and the area of chain about there.
Plus the bits that You fasten to the Boat.
In most places the ground chain mostly buried in the sand/ mud or whatever the bottom is by You, doesn't really"Wear".
That's a hefty boat I would definateley have the mooring checked.
