got yer ! seriously, does anyone know of anyone able to swing a ships compass, essex area we know the one on our boat is out, is it a bit complicated to take on.

He popped by and took a look at our Sestrel Moore and then took it away for repair and then set it up when he was next around.

Captain Cockcroft's book on the Ship's Compass is worth borrowing from a library as it is very detailed about the whole theory. You can then do it yourself. Note the position of the magnets and soft iron correctors before you start and if it all goes wrong you can set it back to the beginning and start again. Note, soft iron whatsits, or Kelvin's Balls are used in steel vessel, so don't worry if you are wood or GRP and think you have lost your balls. You never would have had them in the first place
