I have a swing mooring on the River Deben in Suffolk and a 17 Foot speed boat that on no accounts am I going to Antifoul. I was wondering how long people with experience think I could leave the boat on the mooring and it will not foul up. I am hoping I could get 2 weeks and then just pull it out for a washdown. Do people think I could get any longer than this

Thanks

Depends a bit on the time of year, I expect. Long ago, I had an open boat with a rudder which was not antifouled because she was kept on a drying mooring with the rudder in the boat. I went cruising in her for a fortnight in August and the varnished rudder blade was like coarse sandpaper with small barnacles after ten days.

Dory.jpgI pulled my dory out of the water a couple of weeks ago, after she'd been in for a year. She (apologies for the gender specific faux pas) sits on a drying mooring, afloat for ten hours out of twelve, and I was pleased with the general lack of barnacles, as it was a test for EU45. This picture shows the impressive bloom of nuns where the antifouling was scratched off as she was winched onto the skids of the trailer in the yard, before launching a year ago.

I think the non-mobo community on the Deben will be grateful if you persevere without antifoul ;)

Edit: I can't seem to upload the picture, but will keep trying
