Still playing with the new purchase, which is a nice wee boat.
But one ore two puzzles- there is a halyard emerging from the mast way below the spreaders, which I have no ideas about- anyone got a rigging diagram, please?
Also, I am still unsure about the greasing arrangements for the keel and lift screw- help, please.
As may be obvious, I am still in catch 22 mode in accessing the Owner's forum. No posting, so no access; can't re-register as email address already allocated.

There must be someone out there with a Swift! HELP!

My big problem is still logging in to the Swift 18 Owner's forum.
I registered in September, but cannot log on, because they consider my membership dormant, as I have not made any posts. I have tried; they did have problems with a spam filter, now fixed, I believe.
So the suggestion is re-register. No can do; my email address is already allocated!

Does anyone know anyone who can contact the forum, please- there are no contact details on the site.

Hi Tobermoryphil had a Swift for 12 years some time ago. Re the keel lift screw, with the keel supported by the trailer when you wind down the screw mechanism comes up then just grease what you can see. that should do the trick. I was the secretary in the old association and have lots of old newsletters which may help.

Hello Phil,
The lower halyard is for the spinny pole uphaul. I also grease the thread while beached or on the trailer and remove the inspection hatch on the keel casing occasionally to check and grease the mechanism.

No inspection hatch on my keel casing! and I am still trying to access the owner's forum.
The topping lift halyard doesn't seem to go down the mast- is this correct?

tobermoryphil, and others here,

it's all very well greasing the keel lift mechanism, but do you ever see the actual keel, say with the boat hoisted and keel lowered ?

This is one of the several nasty things about trailers, very convenient in someways but they make maintainence difficult.

My lift keeler is on her second keel plate now, and she is much the same vintage as the Swift 18, my A22 was built in 1977-8.

All lift keelers require a regular look at the keel plate, lives depend on it !

I place my boat on high trestles at the club every winter, so as to be able to lower the keel fully; a happy byproduct is that it puts the boat up high away from the reach of casual thieves without ladders.

I supply the plans for these trestles to Anderson owners and a lot have them now, plus a few owners of other similar boats who have adapted the hull supports to their hull shapes.

The trestles are simple to make, take about 2-3 weeks evening and weekend work and about £300 in materials.

In the summer the side steadies are quickly removable giving flat panels to trail home and store under cover.

This is not a plug as I get nothing but the hassle of sending the diagrams and lots of detail photo's, but for the sake of good boats - and people - if anyone fancies them or at least a rough guide let me know...

Not to be outdone by Andy here is my Parker 275 up on its cradle so I can lower the keel.

I made the cradle which is amazing as I am a diy numpty!!

My topping lift halyard is inside the mast and exits through a slot at the bottom of the mast.
I thought all Swifts had the inspection hatch for keel greasing etc, mine was a 5 inch round type, I removed this and fitted clear polycarbonate sealed and screwed to the keel case this way I can see the mechanism, its easy enough to remove and rebed with new sealant.
What number is your Swift? was it made by Swiftcraft or Honnor marine?
