Planning this year to swap skipper and crew in france or channel islands (we sail out-friends sail back and we come home by ferry) - are there any issues with french or CI authorities with none owner taking boat over?

assume can't be as charter boats clearly not owned by skipper and crew who would not be shown on ssr/insurance etc but though best to check - anyone know please?

have checked insurance side and no problems there,

thanks

If official french customs/gendarmes people turn up they want to "solve" the paerwork. So, if the owner with pasport as on ownership doc and insurance isn't on board - who is he? Cue another piece of paper written by you with your pasport number for hmm close inspection (hmm yes, that seem to match, they will have a look and write it down for reports etc etc) ...and signed, giving whoever IS on board the authority to be on board as skipper for the period blah to blah perhaps also with nice list of crew. Exit douniers/gendarmes having solved another difficult puzzle. Uk-med i must have had all the passports and docs looked at about six times, god know what they do with it but it is reassuring that it must be fairly hard for a thief to go a long way around that coast without getting stopped...

If you intend to sail straight back to UK waters I don't think that there is a problem. However if you charter a boat and cruise in French waters and then another crew continues to cruise in French waters, then the customs can claim (IMO rightly) that the boat's charter activity is being carried out in France and should be subject to the same constraints as French charter boats. If not, competition is imperfect. They are quite ticklish on this and I believe that this is the basic motive for their controls on British boats.
