Would it work if two people with similar size boats wanted to swap for the weekend just for a change in scenery, Im based in Poole harbour and I would like to see more around Salcome area, obviously insurance would be an issue and the two parties would have to prove a degree of qualification and experience but what do you think. The obvious is why don’t I just take the boat down there but every time I book a holiday the weather is force 8.

I've done it in the past with a friend's boat. insurance was not an issue as long as there was no money changing hands between us.

Re: Getting your boat there!

Why not ask another (suitably qualified) boatowner to deliver it for you? Give him enough time to find a suitable weather window and your boat can be where you want.
Have done this many times, including car swop, in Ramsgate (for Holland), Le Havre (for Normandy), Falmouth (for Scillies) and Lorient (for South Brittany). No finance involved of course.
Best way I know!!

So what boat have you got?

I would be happy to swap for a weekend, I have 3 boats that need refitting, you can do that any weekend regardless of the weather; and I would love to be on a boat for a weekend that is actually in one piece and works.

Whenever I have someone elses property, i'm even more careful than as if it was my own, for fear of breaking anything. At least if you break your own boat, you've no one to answer to.

The problem is, that I feel not everyone else would think the same as me, and jut not take the same care as they do with their own boat (Or worse, not give a crap about scraping their own boat, hence not care about my boat)

I can't say that i'd be quick to hand someone else over the key's of my boat unless I really trusted and knew them

I loaned my father-in-law our boat one weekend....it was the only time I'd ever been asked my someone to borrow it.

He didn't even get out of the lock at Port Solent....one of the the gear cables broke and he spent the rest of the day fixing it, quote "so I wouldn't be annoyed".

So I've never been asked since /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Cheers,
Paul
