Looking at Swansea Yacht club website ( very nice I might add ) - they seem to be asking for a £1500 deposit on allocation of berth - until the berth is relinquished - on top of club fees, berth fees, in advance ?

Is this normal ?

I might well be a member for 20 years or so !

Every club seems to have a unique way of handling this. Compare it with the marina prices and I think you might still be quids in within the first year or two even if you write the £1500 off...

There is another club near by - Monkstone Sailing Club in Jersey Marine. They might be a bit cheaper - I don't know - but the access is much more tide dependent.

I'm staying down in Swansea for work at the moment and get a good view out to sea from the hotel window and also from the upper floors of our customer's big tower there. What an amazing sailing area.

Yes - its a lovely sailing area - I use the marina quite a bit, or just anchor off at Mumbles or at Oxwich Bay.

I sort of know why they do it - it surprises me Swansea YC do it !
