When are the carnival fireworks this year? We may be overnighting in Swanage on Saturday on our way back from the west - anyone else likely to be around?

Currently in Dartmouth - if any other forumites are around?

Looks like you may get better weather. Not that we can complain - think we've only been rained on twice and Scilly was fantastic as the rest of the UK drowned /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Permission to sulk.... a lot.

I don't know, you've been down to the Scilly's, Timbad and Fendergirl off for a sunny week in the west.. Si & Shelley off all over the place (I'll let him tell the story when he gets back).

Me... I manage a week in Weymouth and now that looks like other than the odd weekend that'll be my lot for this year /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I am a Swanage local and still a little unsure!!

As far as I know Carnival week starts this weekend and they usually have a firework display at both the start and finish (i.e. both Saturdays).

You are a lucky lot - got off my ar*e and phoned my partners mum who owns a local pub (lucky me)!!

The fireworks are on this Saturday (28th), Wednesday (1st August) and Saturday (4th August). They usually start between 9.45pm and 10ish depending on whether it is dark enough.

Hope to hear you lot honking your horns afterwards (sounds a bit dodgy that) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Fantastic - thanks for that! Last year we got in a prime spot only to have the safety boat turn up and shift us further out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sounds like a plan then, maybe see some forumites there on Saturday...

The fireworks are on both Saturdays as stated and we intend to be at both weather allowing. Usually good bands in the marquee afterwards.
Will look out for you!

They cancelled the bloody fireworks last night! It was hissing down with rain at the time though but still disappointing.

Sorry I didn't make it, but didn't miss much, then.

Left home about mid day with a view to coming out on 2:30pm bridge. Took 4 bloomin hours to get to Poole, holiday traffic! By the time I got sorted I'd missed the 4:30 bridge and it was starting to rain, so I thought bother it, and came home.

Must admit the day did not turn out as planned! Made it out there for 2pm from Poole and weather not to bad. Went a shore for a few pints and ended up in the beer tent. Then the rain started. As you say fireworks cancelled. Took a vote between staying in the beer tent as long as necessary till rain stopped or make a run for it. The latter won so 10:30 saw us set of in our little boat for Poole in the pouring rain!
Now last year in similar circumstances even though you could not see Ballard point from Swanage, by the time we got to the Point we could see the lights of Bournemouth and Sandbanks. Not last night, it was black, even from Old Harry's we could only see the lights of the first pair of fairway buoys, and it always seems rougher in the dark. Well it must have been rough, At times, stood at the wheel looking over the screen it felt that someone was chucking buckets of sea water at me.
Anyway made it back OK, using our trusty GPS 12 to keep to seaward of our outbound track which inspired a little confidence. Unfortunately Mrs DPB has stated that that was her last trip (again!), we'll see!
Think I spotted RickP coming in from the West late PM anchoring and then moving inshore later. This from the beer tent so will have to say hello another time!

Yes, that was us. We made it from Darmouth, though it was a bit horrible around St Albans ledge and we were about 5 miles south of it, having already stayed 7 miles off Portland Bill (which was fine).

Met up with djefabs and RogerRat (who had been joined by our favourite Westline dealer /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif) and had a good time, despite the weather.

The run back to Northney on Sunday was worlds apart from the day before. Nice long swell, sunshine (in places) - a much nicer day to be boating /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Shame we missed you, maybe next weekend?
