Weekend after next, (23rd/24th), there's an Old Gaffers Association meet in the Walton Backwaters, where they are racing open boats about.... its their Swallows and Amazons weekend...

We are hoping, weather permitting, to be going along, and perhaps anchoring off Stone point, maybe a BBQ, and to watch the fun....

Anyone else going along?

We'll probably be there, but may go into the Y&FYT pond rather than anchor at Stone Point, as there are a lot of events around the club house and the 10 year old will want to camp ashore with his friends.

Hi Naz, we are planning to go. ETA stone point 0900 If SWMBO is up for a very early start with 5hr passage time or 1500 if not as punching the tide./forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Talbot,

Don't think we'll be there quite that early.... its only 2 hours for us, so we'll probably aim for 11h00 ish.....

Are you going into Titchmarsh?, or if the weather is good, do you fancy anchoring off Stone point, and a BBQ on the beach?

Suspect Titchmarsh will be quite busy given the OGA event.....

I was thinking the same re Titchmarsh and was intending to anchor at stone if there is enough room or on the other side of the island just outside the channel.A beach BBq sounds just the ticket. BTW if it rains YOU said the b word first!

Is this a BIG Gaffer? It was in the Solent this weekend.

Given that it's a Swallows & Amazons event then the correct locations are Secret Water and Flint Island, not Walton Backwaters and Stone Point!

Its a great weekend - I believe the largest number of classic dinghies afloat in the country (100+?). and very well organised by the OGA. I've been a couple of times and hope to be there again this year.

The OGA are starting the North Sea Passage Race to Zeeland on the Sunday to join up with the Dutch Classic Yacht Regatta at Hellevoetsluis, (not for the dinghies of course!).

Having just recently read "Secret Water" with my daughter, we got the charts out, and looked for all the locations... .... but a draft of 1.65m restricts me somewhat from those places.... so we'll go to Stone point, and then use the tender to come and watch the fun!
