Looks like a lot of fun (depending on your age :)) - it's at the Vaudeville Theatre from next week, then in Chichester after that...

Anyone planning to see it or already seen it last year at the Bristol Old Vic? Was it worth seeing?

Saw it at Bristol Old Vic. As an avid theatregoer, Ransome fan, and amateur drama person, I thought it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Its inventive, funny, charming, a delight.

Went with my daughter, who is a Swallows % Amazons fan, and my 9 year old granddaughter, and they both loved it too.

Its on in Malvern in the New Year, and I hope to see it again there.

We have front row tickets for Boxing day :)

ooh I'm jealous of both of you! I've only just found about it, it'll be in Chichester when I next get some time out...reading the review in the Telegraph I thought it was the usual hyperbole, didn't think you could do a sailing play without water or boats!

Saw it last year at Bristol, wonderful; performance and I'd have said suitable for just about any age. In our group was a delightful lady of 75+ who thoroughly enjoyed it and we noticed a number of tiny tots who seemed just as enthralled as we were.

Don't miss it.

Did you enjoy the show on Boxing Day?

In spite of the tube strike we made it there, a normal 50 min journey took just over 2 hours, TFL website was saying the Central line was running, when in fact it stopped at 5pm Grrrrrrr!

Anywhooo we thought it was excellent, funny, well thought out, not too musical and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Excellent - just got back from Chi Festival Theatre - amazing for a cast of 13 to do all the acting, props, stage shifting as well as the music - instruments included!

Well thought out and adapted to the stage ....

the only bit I missed was John tacking up and down the garden - they only made a quick reference to it - so quick that you'd miss it ...

But - certainly worth going to see .. :)

Arthur Ransome's own boat, 'Nancy Blackett' was at the last International Festival Of The Sea in Portsmouth, with an enthusiastic crew of supporters wearing pirate gear; it was a joy & honour to go aboard.

A friend at my club reads 'Swallows & Amazons' and the other books in the series to his young boys and they love it, so there is hope for future generations !

I had the great privilege of sailing on "Nancy Blackett" from Woverston on the Orwell past Pin Mill, around into the Walton Backwaters and into Goblin Creek.
Of course on the way back someone had to ask if we meant to go to sea!
In my youth I read Ransome's books cover to cover numinous times and the opportunity to sail on her was one of those times in life that I will never forget.
