The match was cancelled last year due to poor weather so the 2020 match will be held to commemorate the late, great and much missed Lena Reekie, who was one of the founders of the event in 1973.
Based at Hollowshore, where you can find the Shipwrights’ Arms ( best pub in the world). Open to all sorts of traditional craft. And well worth a visit even if you don’t participate. It’s a spectacle just to see the Swale full of anchored vessels, let alone to see barges, smacks and bawleys under sail. Gives just a hint of how these waters might have looked when the sea was a goods and trade highway....
Put the date in your diary. Details will appear at The Swale Match in due course or PM me and I’ll put you in touch with the organisers.
