Off to Andratx for a couple of nights next week with family and meeting friends. Looking for any advice on local Calas for a lunch and swim stop nearby. I have a recollection of a recommendation for a beach bar who also offer a tender ashore service but can't remember where! I know it will be busy and we have a large entourage, so was hoping to book somewhere if possible. Any ideas? Thanks. Rick

Youre probably thinkong of portals vells, they do the dinghy service to the resturants, there are two, el mago and es repos. Id go for es repos of the two.

There's also a dinghy service on magalluf beach to the nicky beach club, although i wouldnt bother with it myself (too pretentious imo)

Theres also the restaurant on the island at camp de mar(cant remember name) and various bars and restaurants in port andratx.

Of all the above id go for either camp de mar or es repos in portals vells

We should be heading over next week sometime - probably be in Santa Ponsa - so pop in if you get time.
The Vikings will be there - I think you remember them - they disgraced themselves on your boat last year!!

On the subject of beach bars,
I understand that the Es Trenc beach bars have been removed by the authorities this year.
What a shame.

If you're looking for dinner in Andratx, we always go to Trespais (we were there last week) - the food is wonderful and the courtyard lovely on a summer's evening, although a couple of blocks back from the sea-front in Andratx.

Thanks for all the ideas.
We will look out for you Mike. It would be great to see the Viking crew again as long as no-one falls off the passerelle!
We have not made it to Es Trenc yet this season, but do know that the old permanent beach bars were demolished in May 2017. New, non-permanent structures were due to be up and running by June 1st. I will find out if this has happened if we stop there next week.
Cala Mondrago is our 'local' The contract to run the Chiringuito changed hands for the first time in decades, but we have enjoyed lunch there this week and would recommend it.
Thanks. R

Apart from JW, two boats to look out for - both Lagoon sailing catamarans - one (that you know) is Viking - the other is Coco Bay.
There are other boats from SC there but you know the guys on those boats - all in Santa Ponsa at the moment.

If the weather is good enough, we may do an overnight in one of the north calas (Calobra being the favourite) on the way over.
Then down to Santa Ponsa with the others.
I like Cala Basset - on the corner just before Dragonera so maybe a lunch stop there.
All weather depending, of course.

My spies on the island this year told me that there are some "block houses" but they didn't mention any beach bars.

These were the old ones - real shame that they have been knocked down.

Have you decided when you are coming over Mike?

Trying not to tempt the weather gods but maybe Monday or Tuesday.
I expext Palma area by Wednesday/Thursday.

EDIT
Just checked forecast.
There does seem to be some weather to avoid.
In fact, it might even be too windy for our lift and scrub on Monday morning in SC
Will make the decision nearer the time.

Decided to cross today (Monday)
Lift and scrub went well this morning.
At time of writing, we are 5 miles off Dragonara.
Plan to anchor in Illetes tonight with the Sant Carles contingent so we will be very close to Palma tonight.

Mike
