Reading the very interesting story about Liquid Vortex and having very little experience of any waters around Britain I wonder what would should/could one do if catched in a SW F 8-10 in this area. Entering the harbours between Eastbourn and Dover seems very risky in such conditions, almost impossible if one does not have a 100% reliable strong engine.
Looking at a map (true armchair sailing since I do not have charts of these waters), is it not possible to pass Ramsgate and head for shelter along the coast towards London? I do not think this was suggested in any of the postings.
Is the Dover strait just to rough in such conditions due to possible tide?
This is not meant as a besserwisser comment. I am just very curious since I am swedish and sail mostly in the Baltic but nourish a dream of going around Britain.
Only cruising I did in the region was a week as paying crew with a Hamble sailschool going to the Channel Islands and Cherbourg. That was an eye opener for me.
