Second leg was Douglas IoM to Holyhead, Anglesey…
Poor ould SV looked a sorry sight the following morning but hey, where are all the trawlers gone…
I seem to remember hearing voices in my sub-consciousness during the night but how could six trawlers leave so early without disturbing us. Anyway, the day dawns bright and sunny with only a slight breeze. We set about making breakfast and realised that we were in a good spot as we didn’t need to worry about the bridge lift at Douglas Marina and the time restrictions this would impose. All we needed was permission to stay put for a couple of hours.
I was about to call Douglas Harbourmaster on the VHF when the crew of Tarroo Ushtey (Water Buffalo) arrived at 9am. They were very amused to find SV2 rafted on…
I said hello and the fun started when he heard my Irish accent. After a bit of slagging etc we had permission to stay for a couple of hours as they had a bit of work to do on board. Mrs SV was happy as we could head into Douglas for a bit of shopping and stretch the legs before we set off again. We off loaded TT to SV2 and rowed to a nice handy set of steps further down the harbour, tied up and popped across the bridge into town.
The boys were still working on Tarroo Ushtey when we returned and were pleased when we showed a little Irish hospitality by producing a few cans of ice cold Bud in the hot sunshine. They dropped the slagging about SV2 lowering the tone of the area etc and we said goodbye as we were off to Holyhead.
We motored out towards the moored yachts and the visitors pontoon to sort out lines and fenders…
Called in on channel 12 to Douglas harbour and had permission to leave…
Passing Tower of Refuge…
And Douglas Head lighthouse…
Goodbye Douglas…
Goodbye Isle of Man…
Much better conditions today. Happy crew and happy boat cruising at 25 knots…
Centre of our cruising world (head up)…
Isle of Man behind…
North Wales ahead…
Shipping lanes were busy today, we counted 11 but only changed course once to drop in behind this feller…
We were about 90 mins into our run and the sky was darkening ahead and we were wondering if we were in for overcast conditions at Holyhead. After all the recent poor weather, some sunshine would be nice. It got cloudier the further we travelled but we had faith that the high will continue to build from the west and arrive in Anglesey soon
The Skerries in a good mood today…
Welcome committee? Majorcatastrophe’s new fish finder? …
Holyhead Mountain…
Heading to Dublin…
Holyhead Breakwater after 2 hours 20 mins – not bad for a big girl…
Scud missile on water…
Mrs SV at the ready…
Ah, plenty of room. Looks like the bank holiday hasn’t started yet. We docked SV2 on the breakwater and waited for the forumite invasion…
More later...
