Hi all. I have a 6m speedboat with a Suzuki DT85 (85HP) Outboard circa 1994. It starts OK and runs well at gurgling and at speed. When it gets hot it is harder to start and often cuts out at gurgling speed. The local mechanic says this is a feature of Suzuki's which I doubt! Have bought the Seloc repair manual from Amazon. Any ideas please before I start dismantling.

I had a similar prob on my yam, it was the fuel pump the one on the side of the engine a lot of engines use the same one, the diaphragm had a split in it letting lots of fuel straight into the engine bypassing the carb, at high rev it was fine, low revs it was getting choked with fuel.

Nick in cheshire.

HI
I agree with nickjaxe.
We had a DT55 (same block but different carbs)
It's also work trying the fuel tube securing clips. If these are loose at all, they tend to bleed air into the system and give the same symptoms as a ruptured diaphragm in the pump on the side of the block - It took me months and several aborted trips to the ski pool, and several strip downs before I found this out! Because the fuel slowly filters back when the engine stops, it gives the appearance of allowing the engine to cool before it can start again.

If all else fails, try contacting some of the main suzuki dealers for advice. Don't just accept that it's a weakness in the engine design - that's complete c**p.
