If it won't start, how the heck does it get hot?
Clear that up please.
Then we can diagnose /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What i mean is i have to use the choke even after it has run--several times -that is coz it wont run very long--if ya know what i mean .eerr .Right.I start the engine with the choke on(engine cold),it will run OK then i slowly take the choke off and it will run OK then i stick it in gear and it stops or it runs for a while and then stops,I start it again with the choke on(if i dont put the choke on it wont start at all) it will then run,so i take the choke off again and im back to were i was.so-in short it will start with the choke on even if its warmed up (due to the short running times) it will not run in gear for very long , i have tried it out of gear and it still runs lumpy(and also not for very long before it dies).Bloody hell im confusing meself here.Ive also noticed that if i rev the engine(out of gear)it sounds like its gasping for air and cannot rev.

If you can make sense of this lot ill be suprised and gratefull

Sounds to me like the mixture is too lean, and you are having to use the choke to improve the mixture.

There might be some dirty build-up in the carb, so it is worth a carb strip and clean.

Sounds like it could be the fuel filter, but i'm guessing you've checked that. Anything else that could restrict fuel? Dodgy connector, blocked jet?

Kinell!

Read that lot.
Have to go for a lie down now!.

OK, had a lie down!
OK , it seems the usual prob.
OK, You reckon You have cleaned the carb.

The symptom is the pilot airway/jet is still blocked.

Always worth fitting a new plug.

Integral tank or remote?

Good flow of fuel to carb if integral?

Possible pump fault, or air ingress if remote. Pumping bulb make any difference?

Possible incorrect adjustment of idle mixture. Tank vent?

Most likely cause is that the carb is still not clean ... showing all the symptoms of a dirty idle jet. Strip again blow through all passages . Re clean jets ... may be necessary to poke something through that won't damage them. I use soft copper wire. Carb overhaul kit available?
Check adjustment of float.

OK,re-armed with me 2lb lump hammer and cold chisle im off to fix the carb again.Now-where are those left over bits from the last try?

Well it finallyu works(in the test tank) ill be taking it out in the morning for a run.it appaers the problem was in the carb as suggested but i didnt see what it was,i took the thing to bits again and gave it a good seeing to.Now the engine appears to run fine.the acid test will be tomorrow.

Thanks guys yet again for the input
