Hi Guys and Girls , Just joined your forum and thought I would say Hi . Have been out of boating for quite a few years but am now slowly getting back into it .

I do have a couple of questions ......

I just picked up a cheap Suzuki DT4 (1988 I think) but it wont idle ..... It will start on choke and run on throttle quite happily . I have stripped the carb down and cleaned all the crud out with an ultrasonic cleaner but still no luck however when I partially cover the air inlet it will idle ... is this motor supposed to have a small air cleaner/restrictor on it as there is no sign of one ?

Also the tell tale starts and stops while running at high revs and I am leaning towards a damaged impeller , any other thoughts ?

As far as I remember they must, must MUST have clean petrol. Also, they don't like running with muffs - they need the back pressure of a tank to run OK. And check float height.

DTs are very hard to get parts for now. Suzuki UK ditched most of their 2 stroke parts.

Best info is on US self help sites like i-boats.com

Check that when you cleaned the carb through you COMPLETELY clear the idle jet - I had same problem on a Yamaha, took 2 cleans - worked lovely.

I also have a DT4 1988 model,The bl**dy thing needs the carb re-setting every time i fill the tank up,It will also decide not to start for no apparent reason,When it does decide to run it runs like a dream,In my experience with this motor,If things arnt REALLY clean or the mixture is a liitle out, they give you a headache.
