Suzuki DF2.5 outboard propellor stopper?

I've just finished sorting my Suzuki DF 2.5hp outboard after drowning it. All seems fine - but when reinstalling the propeller, the manual mentions a "stopper" - "Place the stopper (2) on the shaft" - this before aligning the propeller.

I have no recollection of anything on the propeller shaft except the prop, propeller nut and cotter pin. I am pretty careful about retaining parts during disassembly, but just in case had a search of the garage floor with no result.

The prop is the aluminium model, not the resin with shear pin.

The prop appears to work fine without the "stopper", which in the illustration looks like a rubber spacer. Is the manual wrong, or have I mislaid the piece - and if I have, where might I find another one?

Thanks for any help!

You dont say what year or state the serial number so difficult to look things up exactly

Recent models with a splined prop hub have a "propeller stopper", #14 in diagram below. Looks like a spacer to me but is quite expensive (34 USD)

Slightly earlier models with a shear pin drive are different but have an "oil seal protector" #14 or #21 which is inexpensive (<5USD)

The earliest models do not have the oil seal protector

Check the parts lists at Brown Point Marine http://www.brownspoint.com/store/pc/suzuki/df2_5.asp for your model year/ serial number to see exactly what you should have.

Thanks, Vic. It's 2012, and has a splined shaft. Looks like I might have overstated my carefulness. Odd, as the prop went on perfectly well without it, but hey! And thanks for the link.

Without it the prop may go on too far so that the hub bush rubs up against the oil seal .

You might be able to make something, or improvise. I don't understand why it is so expensive!

I took the prop of my recent DF2.5 and I can remember anything other that the prop, the nut and the split pin coming off, although I didn't try to remove any of the inner gubbins from the shaft. However, that was a couple of years ago so I may be mistaken.

That's a good idea! I had presumed from the diagram in the manual that it would sit between the ?oil seal? on the spline and the prop, but perhaps it is smaller in diameter than the internals of the prop and is still encased inside. I'll go look when the sun rises!

OK. Thanks for all your help - and for the suggestion, skipper_stu. Yes - it was not missing at all. I do, however, now have an even more tidy garage!

In case anyone else is foolish enough to have the same issue, here's the solution.

The stopper is - as the attached photo should show - a metal disc that is recessed into the propeller shaft housing - a tight fit which is why it did not come out. Phew! The exploded diagram in the manual (and the web parts site) makes it look as if it is a washer, hence my panic.

Again, thanks to all!

I was thinking to go to a larger propon a suuki df2.5 as it is running on a 2m dinghy and I would like to achieve a better speed sins the df2.5 is working effortlessly even with full load
