It all seems to be going wrong this week.

Stuck the outboard on the dinghy and .....nothing.

Its a suzuki 4 hp 4 stroke that is 2 years old and hardly used.

There is no spark.
I changed the plug and disconnected the dead mans switch from the coil and just no spark.

It cant be the coil can it? Its 2 years old and hardly used and kept in my loft.

Removing the 'dead man's switch' will not allow the engine to be started, hence no spark, that is what it is for!
Refit it, and try a new plug with the approved gap.
My stop button on my 2.2 got stuck in and was the reason for my puzzlment when it happened to me!

Make absolutely sure its not the stop switch. Disconnect it and test it with meter if you can. Usually they make to stop and break to run but that's not without exception.

If the stop switch is OK and there is no spark from the HT lead it only really leaves the "igniter" as they call the ignition coil assembly. Part no 33410-91J00
$109 in the USA

Sorry cant help any more than that. Know nothing about Suzukis ... but if it had been an Evinrude or Johnson 2 stroke ...!

I thought the stop switch had a wire from the coil that goes to the stop switch and then to ground. When the switch is off itcompletes the circuit and sends the power to the ground,so no spark.

I assumed by removing the wire from the coil to the switch, It was permanantly on.

I put a new plug in it so not that unless the new plug is duff.

Never mind the plug , can you get a spark from the plug lead ?

I shall stick my finger up it today and find out.Seriously I will check .There is oil on the coil and on the round thing on top, probably where it was sat on its side in the loft, but no corrosion.I know with my dealings with mowers, rust on the coil and the round thing can stop the spark.
This engine is as new.
