lost my manual, nothing comming up on google.

i assumed the 4 stroke engine oil would drain out by undoing the bottom flat phillips screw marked oil on the shaft, near propellor.
but just a minor dribble, nothing more.

so, 1) how do i drain the 4 stroke oil from the engine
2) what should i put back in the bottom of the shaft ?

many thanks, S

Sounds like its the gearbox oil plug youve removed and not the engine oil plug. There will be 2 plugs for gearbox near the prop and you should undo both to empty the gear box (best done warm), then, keeping engine vertical, refil, with gear case lube, from the bottom hole until oil appears in the top one. Cant remember if there is a sump drain plug in the engine but if not you will have to suck out the engine oil through the filler/dipstick (on side of engine)

Underneath and slightly behind the oil level glass you can see a plug with a socket for an allen key that is the engine oil drain (best done hot) use SAE 10W-40 API grade SE,SF,SG,SH or SJ. the plug has a gasket / washer it is suggested you replace it. You have drained the gear oil and will need to remove the upper plug just above the cavitation plate and fill from the lower one untill oil flows from the top one then replace the upper plug and quickly replace the lower one. Use SAE 90 hypoid gear oil or the Suzuki outboard motor gear oil. both of which come in a tube with a nozzel that allows you to fill the leg as described.

Good luck

It is also generaly recommended that the seals on the gear case level and drain plugs should be renewed not re-used. Said to be the most common source of water ingress.
