I'd have thought it should be OK unless it's been stored somewhere cold and the cylinder block has cracked - in which case you've had it anyway.

Put in some fresh fuel (I suspect the old stuff will have gone off, big time) and perhaps check the spark plug, but otherwise I'd just get it going and see what happens. Check the cooling water is circulating, and that it's not belching clouds of smoke, and off you go.................

2 stroke outboards are pretty tough, with few moving parts. What you need to do is this:

1 IF you left petrol in it when you put it away, drain it off. Todays unleaded petrol lasts about 3 - 6 months.

2 The pertol left in the carb float chamber will have evaporated, this may have left the oil which may have become sticky. Take the float chamber off, under the carb, and wash it all with fresh petrol, make sure the float valve is not stuck. Flush through from the tank with new petrol.

3 If the motor has been stored in damp conditions, then take out the spark plug, spray inside the cylinder with WD40 or spray oil. Also, in any case, spray with WD40 in through the water inlet at the bottom of the leg, this is important as the impeller will be dry and could get damaged before it can draw water, pull the starter cord several times to work in the oil. Clean the plug and set the gap, replace.

4 Mount the motor with the leg in water, put some fresh fuel mix in the tank and give the cord a few tugs and with any luck it will go.

From experience the likely problem (if any) will be that the blades of the impellor will have stuck to the sides of the pump chamber.

I would immerse the leg in water sufficiently deep to cover the pump chamber and leave overnight. In the morning, give the starter cord a couple of gentle pulls to free up things before trying the full starting procedure.

Agree with the others re the rest.

Hope it goes well.
