Hi all.

I'm new to these forums and to the world of boating so please forgive me if this subject has already been done to death.

I've just bought my first boat and need to get a pre- purchase survey done on it. Can anyone recommend a good surveyor, preferably in the Bournemouth/Poole area?

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi Jonners.

I too have recently been boat buying and I have twice used Sphere Dawn surveyors. I was impressed by their services. They are based in Brighton, but the surveyor Ed Horne Wingett happily came out to Cobbs Quay, Poole. He is friendly and seemingly thorough - enough to put me off a boat I looked at, helping me avoid a costly mistake.

Regards,

Will

Depends where you are. Check local pages.
Survey fees are fairly standard, but travel costs can vary enormously.

Check the small print. Many have get out clauses that say they are not responsible if they get their decisions wrong. Ensure they have accreditation and proffessional insurance so they can pay if you have to sue them.

Also important that you check with your inetended insurer that they will accept your intended surveyors valuation for insurance purposes.

Hugo Morgan-Harris of Saunders Morgan-Harris did my boat and was excellent. He's Hamble based but would no doubt go to Poole. I gather Duncan Saunders (his business partner) is also very good though I have no direct experience.

I have used Duncan twice and he would be my first choice if I had to recommend a surveyor to a friend.
