Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a yacht surveyor in Cherbourg ?

Also any tips and pitfalls buying a second hand sailboat in France.

I take it I can just reregister it the Uk and get a GBR sailnumber etc. ?

Thanks
T

No problems buying in France. The boat will be well documented as proper documentation is compulsory. The seller will need to deregister it locally then you can put it on the SSR. Sail numbers are issued by the RYA and are entirely optional.

Suggest you employ a UK surveyor then your contract with him will be under UK law. The report will be in English and accepted by your insurer.

My boat was surveyed in May just down the road from Cherbourg in Carentan by Morbihan Yacht Survey. The surveyor - Damian Likely - is British and the contract and report were in English. With me in attendance he explained what he was doing throughout and I learned a lot about my boat. The report was positive & constructive. Travelling expenses were Euro 200 on top of the survey fee.
No connection - just satisfied customer.
