Surveyor - North Wales

Can anyone suggest a good surveyor in North Wales to do the needful on a prospective yacht purchase.

We've used Mike Fox and Mike McGarry and found them to both be proficient.

I have two surveys done by Andrew Potter. As well as simply doing the survey he was always happy to discuss related topics.... even after I'd paid him.

I was very happy with both surveys. The first pointed out the boat I was interested in was likely a total dog though she looked fairly tidy (she was still for sale 2 years later). The second gave an overall positive report about a well loved boat that I did buy in the full knowledge of what was required.

He will do follow up visits for a reasonable price too. He has a reputation for being extremely thorough!

Oddly enough, I've never actually met the gentleman.

I would also recommend Andrew Potter - he did a survey for me about 3 years ago. He's no longer associated with ABC but you can usually find his ad. in the back of PBO.

Another vote for Andrew Potter. He did a very thorough job on our Sadler 29 a couple of years ago, and crucially he did not state that the gas locker HAD to be re-done to current standards. (I have a real bee in my bonnet about this, I've heard of several owners having to bring 1980s boats up to today's standards in order to get insurance.)

Another vote for Andrew Potter, very thourough and detailed survey, very willing to discuss the survey and also suggest how to put things right.
