I am looking at purchasing a second-hand yacht (34 ft sloop) and would welcome the panels recommendations and expected costs for:

a) Competent surveyors

b) Yards to lift-out and hold in slings whilst survey done.

Solent area.

Just been quoted £219 inc VAT for lift-out.

I recc'd Adrian White ..... as I don't pass out personal contact details publicly - PM and I'll give you his contact.

As to yard - talk to him for recc'd ....

If the sloop is fin keeler you can use one of the four scrubbing docks at Hardway sailing club. This costs £10/day rather than £200 odd quid for a lift out for an inspection.
If the boat is a bilge keeler then you can use the concrete hard standing adjacent to the public slip way for nothing. Surveyor will have to do the inspection in the morning during low water (at the moment) and he will have a pair of wellies.
If you want to book a scrubbing dock for a particular day, you need to book in advance as a visitor. PM me if you need telephone numbers etc

Surveyor: Tony Staton-Bevan at Abbey Yachts - finikety, expensive, the best.
Dry out: spend £200-plus at any marina for a lift, but dry out much more cheaply, not only at Hardway (where the chandlery has piles too) but at various places in the Solent. PM me saying where the boat is and what type.
