Hi all good news, offer on our boat accepted, sea trial went very well, survey on the way, now here is the question , apparently the surveyor drags his heels and does 1 hour one day and another a week later and then takes on average 2 weeks to produce the written survey. Can we ask for the survey to be completed by a certain time, as we want to make an offer on another boat , through another 'brokerage'.... Not sure how we stand ..

My recent survey was booked on a Tuesday, completed the following Tuesday, an email copy of the report provided on Thursday morning and hard copy delivered by post on Friday....

Good report too.....saved me more than the cost of the surveyor in remedial works prior to the sale.......

I think i might look for someone else....... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Ask what the schedule is before committing to use that person and IMHO get on the phone and insist on timely return on the one you are waiting for in exchange for timely payment!!

When I bought my T37 back in 2005, I called the surveyor on the Thursday morning, he was on the boat at 8.30 the next day, gave me enough information verbally to be able to complete the deal that afternoon, and I got the full written report by email the following Tuesday. We owned that boat for two years and everything he said was correct, and he didn't miss anything at all. Spot on.

Cheers
Jimmy

Tell your buyer that the terms are not acceptable, surely he can do better than that, I could have a surveyor flown out from the uk within 2 days if they need him, a report that evening on the boat or office of the broker etc, there a man and wife team, the report in inputted to the laptop as he carries out his survey, its only a matter of edit and print at the end, she takes all the photos too, half a day at the most plus the engine trial and hes pretty good with that too, if hes unsure he rings me for help. PM me if you want his number.

Does your contract not prescribe a time limit for the deal to be concluded after survey?

The YBDSA contracts do.... they leave a blank for you to fill in.... we stipulated 7 days.... and its from completion of the survey, not production of the report....

The problem is the buyers, not yours...

Agreed, the way I understand the RYA contract is once signed and small deposit paid if the survey has not produced a fault within ??14?? days then you have bought the boat and the balance is due, in effect unsurveyed.

Fired a rocket up there trouser leg

Ok, thank you all for your comments I think they have seen the light the surveyor is ready as soon as they can get the boat in the hoist . Will keep you all posted. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
