Or how to sneak out for the day without SWMBO knowing. Does anyone else do this, or is it just me?
I've come up with a few tips on how to get away with it...
It's got to be a cash only day. Credit/debit card statements will give the game away.
Leave in your work clothes. Arrive back home in your work clothes. Don't sail in them though, could be hard to explain why they are all wet.
Don't take any non-normal food or drink from home. Get it on the way.
If SWMBO regularly visits the boat, leave it exactly as you find it. They have an inbuilt instinctive ability for detecting the slightest change from weeks previously.
Fit it in to the hours of a normal working day, with perhaps a bit extra that you can blame on traffic.
Get work colleagues to cover for you if she rings there.
Don't answer your mobile phone at sea. Background noises are a dead giveaway.
Wash salt off your face and hands before you get home.
Make sure you can get back to your home port. Trying to explain why the boat is suddenly 40 miles down the coast could be tricky. It might even require another surreptitious day out to get it back.
Make sure SWMBO doesn't read this!
Problems yet to solve
What to do with wet sailing clothes.
When it's sunny my skin always goes brown at sea, even after day.
I always break fingernails sailing. It's the sort of thing they're trained to notice.
Anyone got any other tips?
