Surprising bulgin socket design

Very few sockets have any cable clamping devices:think about the design of domestic sockets. it’s because they‘re static, so once fixed in place there little or no need for a cable clamp. Plugs often (usually) have a cable clamp of some variety as they’re constantly being removed and replaced so need some means of protecting the connection from damage. I’ve had Bulgin plug and sockets on the boat for years now with no problems at all.

If its the bulkhead mount then you can get the backshell which seals the cable and in turn grips it.
Thank you for that - news to me! Like the OP, I have been disappointed to find no good physical connection. Bulkhead sockets are often installed in places like cockpit lockers with lots of scope for cables to get dislodged.

The plugs clamp the cable with the gland at the end. For sockets, I think you would expect to secure the cable appropriately as part of the installation; ie it shouldn't be moving anyway.

Inline sockets with similar body to plugs are available if it's a floating cable.
