Doesn't look that mad or scary to me. Biggish catamarans regularly surf at over 20knots down big waves, some lightweight ones even 30knots. Quiet news day i spose.

Waves breaking on a bar seem to look less intimidating from the sea side. Would he have gone for it if he had been able to see the land side?

don't agree that it was likely to go TU either - he just went over a wave. That's precisely what boats are supposed to do.

If the bows had buried further and then broached a capsize was possible imho!
You need to have full bows and strong steering and lotsa concentration to do this!!
Suspect the twin rudders and probable LAR keels helped a lot. Sandbars are dangerous.
