Do I need one of these completed?

The boat that I am buying is German registered.

It needs to be UK-registered.

Do I need the above for that purpose or is it unnecessary for a pleasure boat..please advise as £ 180 is stupid for ANOTHER bit of paper for a bog standard 2nd hand boat?

Re-registry under the Red Ensign should be easy using the German documents. See the RYA site for advice.

You do not say how big the boat is. If you chose to re-register the boat on the small ships register you should not need a certificate of measurement. If you chose to register on the Part One register, then you will need to have the boat remeasured. Ask the RYA technical dept as I do not rememer it being £180 when I had it done last year.

Do make sure that you get evidence of VAT or whatever they call it in Germany having been paid as if you take the boat to France you will need it.

If you are intending to bring the boat through the Dutch canals, make sure you have your ICC, also from the RYA with Inland waters endorsement. you will also need copies of the Dutch regulations.
