I'm looking for a housing to take 4x standard nav instrument displays, to go above the companion way hatch. Current number is in somewhat tired ply. I could build aonther, but wonder if anyone can suggest a supplier for a stock GRP item which will do the job? Googling hasn't been very helpful.

I remember seeing one where the guy had used a bit of ducting for kitchen/bathroom extraction fans from B&Q. it was about 6 inches by about 3 inches, and he had a 90degree bend at each end, so the whole thing was like "bridge" over the top of his hatch garage. The 6 inch face being vertical had 4 or 5 instruments on it, and it looked a fairly good job to me. I didn't sail with the guy so I can't comment on how it worked in practice, though.

Have you thought about the mobile instrument module? Its wired in using a "chocolate box" and a coiled wire. Very handy cos you can sit with it on the windward rail, in the heads, at the chart table, take it too your bunk with you. Very useful bit of kit.

There was another suggestion in PBO a couple of years back to use one of the blown acrylic taxi roof signs (without the writing) - when I looked last year they were about £25-30, so made one out of ply. Can't remember the site but found it through Google

If you want a sleeker look than stained plywood you could cover it in fine woven tape and epoxy before filling and painting

Edson do various housings and mountings. They have a universal range which you can see <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.edsonmarine.com/sailboat/pdf/49.pdf>Here</A>. Again, not cheap though. Probably about £160 for a 20"

I've looked and failed to find one. You could get a solid teak box built for the price of that Edson thingy (above). In your case, probably from offcuts. After all our perusing at LIBS, by the way, I bought a second-hand Eberspacher. So how come your inane question about boxes gets more replies than my multo serious one about Eberspacher exhausts? Life ain't fair.

Ken, NASA do a twin instrument pod that's pretty solid and not expensive, a couple of them bolted together would probably sort the problem, another option, if you have access to a garden centre ,is a 30"plant holder using the base as the instrument facia, a little bit of modification and robert may well be your uncle....cost about a tenner. Hope you enjoyed LIBS, sorry we went on sunday and wernt able to come and put a face to a name. Tony W.
