I like the grill on my Techimpex cooker, but the grill pan is pretty rubbish. It's enamelled steel, about 20cm square, and contains a flimsy rack which is slightly too high for the aperture, and even when bent to fit requires careful wiggling to insert (oo-er, missus).

Years ago I had a VW Campervan with a gas grill for which I found a really nice stainless grill pan. I have been unable to find one for the boat - the stainless ones have all been too big and the suitably sized ones have all been mild steel rubbish.

Has anyone spotted small stainless grill pans in the wild anywhere?

You can buy them in assorted sizes from Nisbets and Caterspeed, there are more shops that cater for restaurants but this is the ones I tend to use. They have most sizes and are around £20 ish to £30 ish

Thanks very much. Unfortunately, I'm not finding any grill trays at all on either site, which probably means I am searching for the wrong thing. Any hints would be most welcome ...

There you go, you have to peruse the size you wish and assuming this is the right item you're looking for.

They have a HUGE range. it's a question of finding the right dimension. From very small think 100x100x5mm to huge things where you can roast half a country.

Thinking outside the box

Consider a Tomago pan. It is rectangular and will need a rack (most grill pans for toasters have a rack). Its not, usually, stainless - but a Tomago pan will also make you a square omelette - and be space saving on your stove. Maybe with a search you will find a stainless version (and already have, can adapt of purloin a rack)

They do not seem very expensive.

Here, hardly a focus of Japanese cooking, or no more so than the UK, you can buy them in most large culinary retail outlets (as well as Amazon).

And you could also make egg roll sushi.

Needless to say - we have one.

Jonathan

edit

The Tamago pans come non stick because the idea is to make a very thin omelette - and the non stick feature makes the content easier to slide off the pan - I've actually never seen one that is not non stick.

Obviously if you re going to toast breakfast rolls they are not very efficiently using space, but might be good for warming butteries.

I think I have expressed my self badly, through ignorance of the proper term. What I am after is something like this, in stainless steel:
