Superyacht or not?

100 feet is still a bit titchy. 50 metres starts being quite super. Big enough to crane a car aboard, how about that as a definition?

Of course, with it being a Fairline it'll be a slightly different definition of superyacht. The carpet won't be from the bin ends at Allied, and almost all of the self-tapping screws that hold the walls up will be screwed in properly. Betcha the wardrobes won't have shelves cos it's easier to wham up a single clothes rail, there's one generator, flares and raft and lifejackets are all extra, the sofas have stupid curves innem and there are lots of car radios about the place with "luxury" fairline cutlery a Candy deluxe washer dryer worth £399 plus an amazing fold-out ironing board. Ooh what a cynic. I will have to go down and see it.

If I may adapt Fairline's very own sales blurb slogan for the Phantom 38 and call it...........................

"An entry level Super Yacht"

:-)

"Hopefully that won't be too expensive to fix?"

Seen it... Don\'t rush...

It was delivered to their sea trial boat shed about 6 weeks ago... yeah it looks big and white and has dark windows.. and looks the same as most new boats from this part of Europe.

Having watched some of the engineers put the finishing touches in to it and fit the electronics, complete the panelling etc... it doesn't inspire me to rush out and buy one (even if i had £2mn burning a hole in my pocket!) - would most likely take a leaf out of your book matts... and get a nice little (!!!!) Italian Job! The Self Tappers and sticky tape appeared to be in abundance... along with the leaves, twigs and other rubbish it picked up on its way to their test area...

Bearing in mind there will be queues and no doubt a diary to book viewing at the show... make better use of your time.. either visit the beer tent or buy some discounted chandlery..

Cheers,

C

Re: A propos superyachts

There's a very Euro-looking Viking 105 in our marina. As Princesses are marketed as Vikings in the US, is this a Princess I hadn't heard/read about?

Viking 105 built at Versilcraft

In order to keep up with the demand for larger yachts, a couple of years ago Viking wanted Princess to build something larger than the 25m. Princess were not comfortable doing so at the time, so the owners of Viking did a similar arrangement with Versilcraft down in Viareggio to do larger semi-custom yachts. The 105 you saw is the first yacht to come of this arrangement. Like Sunseeker, they are planning on offering even larger models.

Re: Viking 105 built at Versilcraft

Aswade - I've just had another look at the yacht this evening and in fact under the Viking name it does say "by Versilcraft" in smaller letters. Tks for the info.
