Although not making way they were under way, were they keeping a proper lookout? Would they understand the question? My understanding is they were stopped having a chat in the middle of a very busy channel, like cyclists stopping for a chat in the middle of a dual carriageway.
Not condoning inappropriate behaviour (Ramming) but we do not have all the facts, but as the little vulnerable guy I would have been keeping a very careful lookout.

I don't think you can draw that conclusion from the article; I don't think you can draw much at all to be honest beyond "motor vessel hits three jetskis near No Man's Land fort".

The jetskis might not have been in the channel, they could have anywhere around the fort. And I doubt the other vessel was a "superyacht", rather than a more typical motorboat.

The mobo thread points to poor maneuverability (0-60kts is about 3s after all!) as a potential reason the "parked up" jet skis were unable to get out of the way!

There's got to be more to this story, much more

I only have a sailing boat that does about 6 knots ... on autopilot I'll often go up onto the fore deck and watch the world go by ... that was until a ski boat screamed past and dropped a water-skier about 2 boat lengths off my bow. I sprinted back to the cockpit and crashed into reverse because I was then so close I couldn't see where the water skier was - the language was very colourfull. Partly my fault I guess for being so far from the wheel .... lesson learned.

I can only imagine what similar scenarios could unfold when a reasonably large MoBo is underway with PWC mucking around in the vicinity.

Be interesting to see what comes out of this and what actually happened.

I think you are being unnecessarily self-critical.

As far as the reported collision goes, I agree that we don't have sufficient information. I'm not clear what counts as a superyacht to a journalist. It would certainly differ fro my definition. Assuming that it was a large powerboat but not in the Abramovitch class, it seems that there are one or two possibilities.
1 the jet skis were recklessly in the way and the powered craft could not see/avoid them
2 the jet skis were in the way and the powerboat made no effort to avoid them, or sped up to increase the risk
3 the powerboat altered course in order to alarm or collide with the jet skis

Maybe there are others, with varying degrees of culpability to either side. I look forward to the denouement.

I will read the MAIB report and reports of any court proceedings with interest. Until then, I'm not going to speculate. Too many unknowns.

I've never met an arrogant twat on a superyacht, [jealousy] though I suspect it goes with the turf [/jealousy], but I'm met a few - probably equal numbers - on MOBOs and jetskis, just as I've seen examples of good, considerate seamanship on both.

Superyacht, however, implies professional crew to me. I could see an idiot moboer doing something like that, but I find it hard to imagine a professional either ramming them or not keeping a decent lookout anywhere near the forts.

Luxury superyacht and crappy go-fast mobo are often interchangeable in the non-maritime press. See also luxury yacht and Andersen 22.
