Whilst I was away recently, not an uncommon thing, my wife had a couple of weeks on the boat on her own. Being ever vigilant, she noticed our battery indicator was showing alarming signs. Its a straightforward 'traffic light' indicator and was showing loadsa red. Well, the local sparks promptly came to damsel in distress and diagnosed, procured and fitted a CTEK MULTI XS 7000 battery charger, all for 200 euros. Our old charger had the electronic equivalent of Alzheimers and had largely given up. Since it was fitted to the boat before we bought her and we have lived aboard for 10 years, it was good value! I'd like to say we gave it an honourable discharge, but that's a bit yuk.
Anyway, the new gismo is a fantastic bit of kit. It boosts, floats, charges, etc and I'm sure our batterys have never been as healthy judging by the state monitor.
So, my wife is happy, the batteries are happy therefore I'm off the hook! A satisfied customer.

Yes indeed. I had a similar experience last year with the computer. My wife managed to get several people involved and had it all sorted out before I was let out of hospital. Wives are wonderfully useful.

I think he meant the charger not the wife who, while undoubtedly useful, would not, I am sure, like to be described as a "bit of kit"

Sorry. Trained first as a scientist and then as a computer wonk. Not claiming to be much good at either, but this background does lead to a degree of juvenile literal-mindedness. Like thinking irony is caused by overdosing on mineral supplements.
