Notice that Peter Crowther has entered Suomi Kudu in this year's Ostar. Does anyone know if this is because of damage to Predator inflicted by the Dartmouth Higher Ferry or whether there's bad news about SK's owner ?

Suomi Kudu has to date been owned by Crowther's brother-in-law - a splendid gentleman by the name of Perkins who pops into his Dartmouth berth on occasion before saying, characteristically "Can't hang about - off to Venezuela in half an hour ..." And he does - though you can subsitute Maine, the Hebrides or other distant shores for Venezuela depending on this year's destination. He entered the Ostar himself a couple of years ago so we were rather surprised that he's not sailing her himself. So if anyone has news of him we'd be very grateful to hear.

Hi Pragmatist, Peter Crowther has entered on Suomi Kudu with the intention of bringing the boat to his brother in-law in the states, so racing during a sort of delivery.
He has signed up for blogSTAR the skippers blog, he'll post his stories there. www.blogstar.org.uk

Interesting character. He bought Galway Blazer from Bill King after his ill-fated circumnavigation attempt (holed by whales). He then acquired Golden Vanity, a large gaff cutter which he painted orange and yellow and entered in the OSTAR in 1976. He didn't figure in the list of finishers and when I met him some years later he said that whatever he did he could never get the boat to do more than 3 knots so he abandoned the race and went cruising.
