Used properly the Sunseekers are very good boats but IMHO a reasonably high percentage are bought as "posing" material with often a lack of knowledge on the owner's part. (stand back for Sunseeker supporters flack) They can thus be abused.

Would strongly suggest use of a competent surveyor and a detailed survey. Do not assume that because they advertise as surveyors they are any good.

Col is an established member of the forum who has a sunseeker martinique.
Those of us who are frequent vistors here understand but lest there be any misunderstandings I think LJS is letting his sense of humour out just a tad too far !

What sort of CATs?

3208 or the 3166 / 3196 or something?

American "general" opinion is the375 hp 3208s are the pick with increasing problems as the power went up beyond.

Our 375s are 15-16 yrs old and 1500+ hours and have needed oil coolers + heat exchangers cleaning out which is apparently not untypical

I also seem to remember a set of probs w the 3166 blocks needing replacing much earlier than expected.

I nearly bought one myself a few years ago. They're reputed to be one of Sunseeker's best seaboats, loads better than the Portofino 400 for example. We looked at a few of them and a number had been chartered so condition varied greatly. I remember that the saloon seating was very uncomfortable and narrow and thats why SWMBO took against them
Agree with adarcy on the Cat 3208 engines. I think only the 3208TA 435hp engines were fitted to the Mustique. These are good engines but they were stretched close to their limit at 435hp - have a look at http://www.yachtsurvey.com/comparing_diesel_types.htm
I've heard reports that a lot of them need rebuilds around the 10yr mark (about £15k each) and you absolutely must get an oil analysis done. I nearly bought a boat this year myself with these very same engines and an oil analysis saved me from making a very expensive mistake

Good lad is Col. Certainly not a pose, a serious boater, does god knows how many miles a year.

Right Col, does that pay for some of the beers I've had off you/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
