Having dinner on the back of the boat yesterday and noticed some unusual activity near to the boatyard – salvage vessel and one other, towing an almost fully submerged fishing vessel towards the boatyard hoist in Sant Carles Marina.
It is reported it sank outside the lagoon due to stern gland failure, causing a serious leak, no collision or impact damage, just a failed stern gland!
Salvage vessels arrived just in time to fit some buoyancy aids, they then towed the boat into the marina to the hoist. However, having entered the marina they then grounded the boat in some marked shallows just before the hoist, it took them several attempts to pull her off.
The boat was finally lifted out this morning. Some pictures:
I suppose I had mixed feelings, quite exciting to see this event but felt sorry for the skipper, just hope he was fully insured. No reports of any injuries thank goodness. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
