Re: Sunbrella.com

read all about it and tell us! It's fabric, yerknow canvas. Cept of course I bet that it won't be ornery cos it's American - It'll be the very highest quality micro-woven and carefully treated substance in the known universe, guaranteed for a lifetime (ie until it goes manky)....

As far as I know Sunbrella is what is used on all the Searays. It is also used on awnings and canopys over shops and cafes. You can buy the material by the metre in most of the companies that make the canopys for shops. Many blind companies also stock it. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying it off marine canopy companies. I bought some to make dodgers and exterior cushions and they also have a huge range of colours and stripes.

Sunbrella is a trade name, its uv resistant acrylic canvas, just like anybodies uv resistant acrylic canvas, speak to the canvas people in any place where they make covers etc.

Sunbrella is just a trade name. Fitting a bimni to Calypso in the next couple of weeks when it gets here from the States. Come over and check it out A16. Same material can be bought over at the trimmers at a far cheaper price

Re: Sunbrella Toobaz

Barry thats A16 on Penton Hook is it ? I'd like to see it cos I'm currently getting the third of three quotes
for my new canopy, dodgers and aft deck seat covers. Got one from "the trim shop" at PH but not
too impressed with their casual attitude.

PH Trimmers

WITHOUT PREJUDICE - and this isn't me using my ybw id.

If you want your work carried out professionally, this side of Christmas, do not use PH trimmers.

This opinion is not, and does not in any way reflect, the opinion of YBW (OK Kim ??_

My canopy, flybridge cover, and dinghy cover are made of the ribbed cord type material in blue the thing is that it gets green very quickly this time of year if you don't clean it regularly, the canopy is the oldest and has lost it's water proofing, think carefully about what you choose, especially on a Broom where it has a great area of material, PVC looks as good in many cases, is cheaper and easier to keep clean, a rub down with traffic film remover and it will look like new.
We have a good canopy maker up here and he is doing Brooms all the time, he is based just outside Lincoln and has recently travelled to Barcelona to do work.

Re: Pauljs_eng

Hi Paul I put an earlier thread on myself about the merits of canvas V PVC with mixed responses, I have
currently got a black PVC canopy and have so far got quotes to change this for the same in Burgundy.
Generally I favour PVC cos it does'nt turn green, is easy to clean and is totally waterproof

Re: Sunbrella Toobaz

Hear that with the trimmers! Yeah, Penton Hook.
Hope to have the bimni in next week or so, however if you come over check out the dodgers and aft canopy on Calypso. Will be on the boat, so anytime.

Am I a Sad bloke or a nice bloke?

Went to the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court today (don't ask), and specifically sought out one of the house awning companies and had a chat with them re this stuff.

Seems it's supposed to be the bees knees of material for awnings and I was told was specifically "made for the marine industry so is especially good". Company I spoke to are in Chesham and they'll sell the base material at about £10.50 per metre run and it's 1.20 metres wide. If you want they'll join it together for you and might, if you';ve got a sample cover to give them, machine one up for you. Apparantly you can stitch it with an ordinary domestic machine but need special needle and thread. got the Sunbrela (yes that's how it's spelt) brochure and they do some nice boaty plain colours as well as hideous stripey ones too. As long as you promise not to moor next to me, I'd recommend one of the hideous stripey ones then we'll all know who you are and can have a real good laugh at you.

Their name and details are Regency Awnings, 01494 794508. Speak with Nina but after the Ideal Home Show, it's on till 1 April. Seem a nice bunch.

Never used them, don't know them from Adam, but their awnings look good.

Clive, if you PM me your home address, I'll put the brochure in the post to you.

Yes it's American, yes, it's acrylic, yes it's used on all Sea Rays and yes, it's bloody good stuff - doesn't go mouldy and stands up very well to Florida UV. Clean it by light brushing and then with mild detergent.
