Unfortunately no pictures of mine with hot totty on with this post !

I have washed my covers, in a washing machine(as recommended by Fairline) - a sunbrella type fabric with a vinyl backing on the reverse of the stripes.

Trouble is I have some small black mildew(?) stains that wont wash out on the white stripes, I've tried a 30 and 40 degree wash !!!

They have come up nice and clean, bar these little spots.

Any advice gratefully received - cheers all in advance.

Hi,
Had a simmilar prob on the interior cushions of a previous boat over the winter before our marina fitted shorepower...

We used the Starbright mould and mildew remover to great effect but expensive! also tried a brand? from Tesco and found to be just as good.

Good luck.

Agreed starbright is very effective and removed a mould garden from carpet when I sprung a rainwater leak.
Works on the shower at home too!
However on my first boat the upholstery had green and yellow stripes, it removed the black from the yellow completely and removed the green completely. HAd a perfectly white circle with a clean yellow strip through it. So take care with the colourfastness.

Have you tried normal bleach? I've had small patches of mould on the wallpaper in the corners of my rooms at home. It's an old house and hasn't got cavity walls, so dreaded condensation occurs.
Nothing else would work, so tried a small area with cheap bleach. Works a treat with no colour loss problems.
Worth a try??

Flash Mould and Mildew works well.....but be careful it does not bleach the cloth. Use a little bit, let it dry..if it does not all go then use a little bit more..sparingly!

The best recommendation is plenty of hot soapy water and Flash or Cif liquid and plenty of elboww grease should start to lift after about 5 minutes of scrubbing following about 5 minutes of soaking but be careful not to use to much pressure.

maybe it depends on the fabric, but my extensive costs and experiments showed that while green mould is easy, black spots are totally impossible. A hell of alot of washing with oxy-wash domestic detergent helped a tiny bit, but that was it.

Thanks all appreciate the ideas - it seems there is no magic potion unfortunately. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Will give the household cleaners a go first, then move on with the other suggestions.

Will report back ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
