A very frustrated post!

On the last few passages of 2007, in November and fairly bumpy at times, I kept getting gallons of fresh water leaking into the forward bilges. After emptying the forward water tank, the forward bilges (which are not connected to the main saloon bilge sump) stopped filling up.

Today, with the entire boat ashore and bone dry inside, I filled the tank to overflowing - ie with several feet extra head from the filler pipe and overflow tube full too. Not a trace of a leak anywhere. The tank is a factory-fitted moulded polyethelene or similar rigid tank, and all hose fittings are secure and double-clipped.

I've left tank full and will go back tomorrow.

Anyone else had anything similar? - any suggestions?

Phone Clarke and Carter - Ian Scott 01621 785600. He is the dealer expert, great bloke.
Its obviously leaking when flexing then.....

We chartered an SO37 in Turkey a few years ago....

Same issue in choppy weather....traced to cross-threaded inspection hatch in the top of the tank.....not visible, until we chucked it into a couple of waves and watched the water come out!!!

Hope it helps....

If S.O.'s have the same red plug/inspection cover, then it could be that it is damaged and leaks when in rough weather. If they are the same as fitted to Beneteaus then it is a "known" problem. All mine on my Ben were replaced; the originals were made from a hollow design but the replacement ones are solid. Mine was leaking from the forward tank when it was overfilled .... i.e. when it was filled up to the top of the pipe and my friend had the same on his Ben.

Just unscrew the red "plug" ( you may need to make a special key for this ... I used a large adjustable spanner which by luck fitted the groove in the top) and you will probably see a split in the threaded part of the "plug".
Hope that is all that it is - an easy fix and the replacements are constructed better!!!

I had a similar experience with our SO37 aft tank. It only leaked underway or when filling with a good flow of water. It turned out to be a hole caused by incorrect drilling when they fitted the locker floorboard. The hole had been filled with a `bit` of timber painted in bitumen which moved due to flexing or pressure. The tank access is likely to flex as well but so far no leaks.

I have had the same problem on our SO 40 I traced it to a leak on the joint of the fill tube to the tank - took it off and rebedded the tube on sealant then re fixed the jubilie clip - now no more problems

other posts seem the most likely answer....

have a SO 37 and it's hot water pressure relief valve went (rubber seal perished) causing similar problem. From what you have said though, unlikley this would be the case as ist should be into the main bilge.

Maybe useful for reference!

Good luck
