It wasn't my idea (I wish it was!) .... but!

If the weather is conducive to an ‘overnighter' who would be up-for a Sail / Motor on the Solstice?

Because:

1, I think night sailing is magical ..... don't ask me why .... I just do!

2, It's the Solstice.

3, You will enjoy it, you will remember it for a long time ... and! .... we might even start a trend!

4, We are spoilt for choice in the Clyde with Ailsa, Arran and Bute to sail around etc.

5, We can have a competition for best sunset & sunrise sailing photos / videos..... prize being credit on the forum. ;)

6, And you might see me!  :p ...... I know - I know! .... I hear you all saying ... OMG we sincerely hope not!

But! .... you must confirm with your insurance that you are covered for night-time sailing / hours ..... as it's not included on all policies as standard.

Would love to, if only I was there!

Hope it all works, you are right, could start a trend.

Good luck, hope you can post a great result.

&-& I do hope so .... :)

&-&-& .... talking of Arran (as some are!) .... we could have a 'Solstice BBQ Big Breakfast' on the beach! ..... & why not!?

That would be good but I will be away then.

Good idea! I love sailing overnight and the Solstice is a perfect excuse. Please PM details (By the way I have a Twister 28 now)

Don't mean to be a pedant, but if you like night sailing so much, isn't the solstice in the north of scotland kind of the wrong time/place to do it? I presumed you meant the summer solstice of course...

It depends on cloud cover Mr Pedant. It's unusual to get the real "never-gets-dark" scenario that should theoretically happen.
Old Git D - how's about a midnight Barbie in Wreck bay (a quickie) then onward to either of the Loch Fyne centres for a snooze then lunch, followed by whatever your time )or the weather) allows.
This was midsummer sunset wreck bay 2010.

Just re-read the OP.
have you a new boat John? Those lumps of rock you mention sailing round will take more than a night, Arran is 56 by road, Bute about 35 but a good 15 miles or so for you to reach and ailsa is a good 70 mile round trip with nothing in between. A trip round wee cumbrae might be more realistic:D

I wish .... SWMBO very nearly had a very nice contract in the North East with 'mega-spondooliks' & my first thought was 'new boat' .... but alas .... it was not to be! ... :(

I know .... but I can adjust my ETD to accommodate ..... but I don't know where 'Wreck Bay' (I just don't like the sound of that  ) is yet.

I personally would like to be out on the water for sunset & sunrise (magic time) .... & then possibly over to a nice beach for a 'Big-Breakfast-Solstice-BBQ' ..... & then grab a kip / snooze-ex before heading somewhere for the Saturday night.

The simplest option for 'Moi' would be to sail 21:00 & aim for Brodick / Millport ETA 05:00 for BBSBBQ (Eileans beach if Millport.)
& to cover the additional hours I / we could complete a circuit-ish of the bay / estuary arriving at an appropriate / nice location for some food.

But I'm up-for any suggestions and very happy to just 'go-with-the-flow'. :)

The weather will decide

But as there might be an opportunity to meet-up with another Forumite who's sailing from another area .... initially it's going to be Millport & the 'Eileans' .... hopefully picking up a mooring or if full of boats from Largs (nothing new there then ... ;) ) dropping the 'Hook' on the other side (something else I need to sort out since the incident with the angle-grinder.)

And if I'm not too tired, the weather is good & my Crew are up-for-it .... then on completion of the 'SBBBBBQ' (Solstice Big Breakfast Beach BBQ) it's over to Arran for the second part of a good weekend. :)

Edit .... I've found two spare batteries & a big memory card for my camera .... so hopefully many good photos!
