Never too early to plan.

The idea - have a summer bbq, somewhere on the south coast, have fun, go on into the night!

The plan - I'll try and arrange this as best as I can, so here goes. I'll set a date and place, try and get a couple of large bbq's (depending on response), get loads of support from you guys, have a bbq, lots of fun

Let me know your thoughts.

We did this last year. Loads of fun. But the only sencible place is Weymouth, sort of half way, except a hell of allot more than half way for many. But never mind, we made it from Plymouth. Not a massive distance, but more than most.

Most get togethers are organised through friends. Or at least of a similar mind.

I seem to remember you had a different axe to grind and can find no reference to boat type.
Maybe post Studland bay type BBQ, nearly every one goes there!!!

Not a different axe to grind, i've decided to get a RIB, so meet ups are on my agenda. I've already made up with most people who I offended, i don't apologize often but have done and it seems to have been accepted by the majority! Making friends, etc.... that's what the BBQ is for. I may be able to do a deal with the owner of HMS president, that would be fun, BBQ and bar. Late summer, maybe towards the end. My company are tendering for some work on the vessel and I might include a free party in the deal. I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, we used to have some good BBQs on the East coast in the good old days - Stone Point, or the Orwell foreshore.

Gather up old driftwood, fallen branches, bits of teak ...

[/ QUOTE ]We still do!

Stone point is perfect for this, and no doubt will be the location of several such events this year /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Haha Nick - you only offended me for about 5 minutes; I find it really hard to stay offended for longer than that these days. Yep, if you do something in London I'd be interested...

I've been on HMS President a few times for various things; those old naval steel decks do look a bit institutional, don't they? And Cutty Sark's decks are pretty boring, too - now I know the ex-Chairman of the Maritime Trust pretty well as it happens .....

thoughts have already been well represented..............ie most who regularily use thier boats will probably have many summer BBQs - and many of the common solent/poole venues will be frequented when weather permits/encourages!

Nige has put together an event in May at Yarmouth, other here (on this thread) have put together others in the past.

Pick a good venue, pick a date, publish and present a plan b ...............then see what the reaction is.
