Having recently totally discharged my engine start battery for two days, I found the following information interesting.

www.homepower.com

I have always assumed that a sulfated battery was beyond repair, and am still certain this is correct once pressure builds up and distortion results. However, this site gives details of two methods using EDTA, and one using electronics, that appear successful.

The story behind ETDA is quite interesting. The Germans, in the 1930s, realising that at the commencement of war their supply of citric acid would be cut off, developed EDTA to chelate calcium from cloth. During the war, many workers suffered from lead poisoning. EDTA was dripped into their blood supply, and out came the lead. However, calcium deposits in the blood vessels were also removed. Several clinics still offer this treatment. Probably cheaper than a heart bypass!

If you only discharged it once, it is very doubtful that you are sulphated. Sulphation is crsytal grouth from a electrochemical reaction between sulphuric acid electrolyte and the active material in the plates, crystals cannot be reconverted. Are they refering to lead sulphate, if left standing for long periods, the sulphate occupies more space than active material, expanding above pores absorbing ability, resulting in fracture of grid frame.
