looking to replace 2 decorative strips of timber which cover a seam on my doghouse sides.
These will be varnished.
I understand that I could use teak but as it will be treated, wonder if a less expensive wood will be ok. Iroko comes to mind but also mahogany or even a softwood like douglas fir.
Thanks

Worth using teak. What section is it? as you may be able to use a standard moulded section from www.kjhowells.com

Iroko often has unstable grains which show up when using in small sections by warping. Not so good for decorative work. Mahoganies are hugely variable so you need to look for good quality with consistent grain and colour such as I have in stock in my garage (but not for sale - just looking for the right job to use it on!)

Thanks Tranona,
Nothing suitable in the Howels catalogue ( but useful thanks)
I need 2x1m lengths x 100mm wide and thin. I think a I can source at Robbins at around £25 each plus postage. It would be planned all round to finish at 6mm thick which is just about right.
While £50 plus may not seem a lot of dosh ( to some) I have to watch my pennies so wondered if I could save money and part of the world teak stocks at the same time!

Mahogany and iroko are roughly half the price of teak, but this will not necessarily translate into a similar reduction in the final price as the machining and postage will be the same whichever timber you choose.
