Hi all

This is going to be my last season with my Fairline Holiday. I intend to move on to bigger ( and better ) things.

The question is what shall it be ?

Area - Severn Estuary / Bristol Channel / Welsh Coast / Cornwall / Ireland.
Size - Comfortable cruising size for 2 people.
Fuel - Diesel. ( mainly due to the poor availability of petrol in this area )
Engines - Twin shafts preferred - handling, redundancy, simplicity.
( I cannot dismiss single engines or sterndrives but I think I would prefer the extra peace of mind )
Range - 150 - 200 miles.
Use - We do about 75% of our cruising at potering speeds just enjoying being out on the water with an occasional blast just to cover a few miles or a bit of fun.
Layout - Good size permanent double bed + permanent dinette + storage area.
(Prefer dinette and/or galley 'up' rather than 'down' if you know what I mean)
Finally - Budget around £35-£40,000.

Mk1 Princess 33's are looking favourite at the moment, Mk2's are still a little beyond the budget.
We had a look at the Marex 280 at Birmingham and were very taken with that but way too much money and only a single engine.

Any suggestions for suitable boats will be greatly appreciated.

See you on the water.

Robin

P.S.
Did any one else get a very odd email from Kim about about 'Data Protection'.

Huh - much cheaper to buy a trailer and tow the Holiday.

"anyway nothing is better than a Holiday." I feel a new strapline coming on.

Re: Suggestions on screen

As the proud owner of one of these beasts (P33),would suggest that your money could buy you a MK2.There are loads around.Stay away from the Thames marinas as nearly all the P33s will be outrageously overpriced and/or worse petrol and real money pits.
Best to look around coastal areas as better bet for diesels. You do not want version with dog slow 2 x 80hp engines.Mine has got 2 x 145hp on legs which will give you around 15/16 knots on a very very very good day.By the way fore cabin is V berth not perm double.Side decks are nice and wide to get to front of boat.Apart from usual stuff to watch, have a good look at cabin side windows plus fore hatch for leaks.Nice classic boat with no major vices and easy to sell on.I would be less worried about year of boat than condition.

Re: Suggestions on screen

How come yours only does 15-16 knots. My old P35 with 130hp engines was good for 18 knots any day. Cruised at 16. Is yours not well?? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I have twice the fun "A Holiday on a Holiday".

<hr width=100% size=1>Adrian <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.arweb.co.uk/argallery/kelisha>Kelisha</A> Nothing is better than a Holiday

The Holiday is a lovely boat to be out and about in.
The main problem is that the V-berths are too small for us and quarter berths are just not friendly enough.
We have run out of room for all the cruising gear we like to take with us for extended trips and I would prefer not to have to completely rearrange the boat every time we change from cruising to moored.

Oh, and the tender is too big and sticks out both sides of the transom so I obviously need a bigger boat.

The V berths are the only real pain - there is no choice but to play "footsie". We sleep 6 on board !! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Quarter berths are great - store bags stuff during the day - the kids love em.

Re: Suggestions on screen

Thanx for the info.

Speed is not a major concern but my Holiday cruises at 18 knots which I am perfectly happy with. If I wanted that sort of performance from a P33, do you know what engines I should be looking for ?
Is there a preference for Volvo's or Mermaids ?
I am not too worried about v-berths forward, only about having a permanently set up sleeping area.
I have briefly considered trying to pick up a very cheap petrol one with a view to re-engining after 2006 if the Gods smile upon us. I rather fancy those Swedish GMC 6.5 V8. 175 hp with no turbos to soot up.
